Sierra Blue Wallpaper
Commemorating the launch of the iPhone 13, I created a pair of iPhone 13-inspired wallpapers (that’ll look drop dead gorgeous if you got the new Sierra Blue one).
I'm a sucker for a beautiful blue device, and when Apple announced the iPhone 13 Pro in Sierra Blue at their California Streaming Apple Event, it was love at first sight.
The only thing I raised an eyebrow at was the new custom wallpapers for the new pro phones. Apple has bundled exclusive wallpapers with their devices for years now, which was no different this year. But the iPhone 13 Pro wallpapers fell a bit flat for me, a scattered array of straight & diagonally placed coloured lines resembling fluorescent/neon bulbs. Meh. I much preferred the iPhone 13 set composed of a bifurcated circle with a colour-matched gradient & background. So I set about attempting to recreate the style colour-matched to the new Sierra Blue iPhone 13 Pro.
The Process
These wallpapers were made inside Pixelmator Pro. One of the iPhone 13 wallpapers was imported into Pixelmator and used as a rough guide for sizing and positioning. A circle shape was first split into two, divided into separate layers, and sized on top of the guide. Next, I created a new layer and created an angle gradient with the colour palette I'd selected for this design. Next, I applied a clipping mask to fit the gradient within the boundaries of the half-circle. This was repeated for the second half-circle. The background added is a simple linear gradient. Finally, a slight amount of noise was added to each half-circle and the background.
The Wallpaper
Two versions of the wallpaper have been created, a light and a darker blue variant, with versions uniquely made and formatted for your iMac, iPad, and of course, the iPhone 13. A dynamic (light/dark mode) version has also been created for your Mac.
