BASIC. (ˈbeɪ.sɪk’; Adj): lover of all things mainstream, popular, & trending in the world of Apple.

Ever since I convinced my shop teacher that working on a video in iMovie on his Blue Dalmatian iMac G3 somehow fit the shop curriculum, I’ve had an incredible affinity for Apple - from the iMac to their iPod socks. Their products gave a then young me tools that pushed the boundaries of what I felt capable of and provided me with a creative reach that I didn’t know was possible.

Decades later, that passion for creativity and Apple fandom continue. BasicAppleGuy is a place where my appreciation and musings on Apple can continue onward.

  • Although I am very private, I thought sharing a few details about myself would be meaningful. This site is my hobby/passion project at the time being, but most of the day, I work in a hospital setting, working to support the mental health of people in my community. It's a career path I would never have predicted for myself since, during the later years of my schooling, I developed a passion for human factors engineering, the study of how to make systems (technologies, products, interfaces) fit people rather than force people to contort to fit bad systems. I dreamed of pursuing a career in that field and wanted to apply to Apple's human factors division, but regrettably, that pathway wasn't meant to be.

When I'm not working or running this site, I have a side gig working with a university and training people in mental healthcare. It's a busy, busy life.

Proudly 🇨🇦, I live in the west of Canada with my wife & dog.

BasicAppleGuy started as a way for me to become more intentional and involved in the Apple community online, and the site developed during the first wave of the COVID-19 lockdowns as a creative project/escape from everything that was happening around me.

I never had a clear plan of where I wanted the site to go, but I have been fortunate to have developed a name in the community, mainly through the wallpapers I've been creating over the years. My guiding principle behind BasicAppleGuy is to be fun and add value to the Apple community. I endeavour to keep my wallpapers, articles, and products moving forward in that spirit.
